Deserts


A desert is a region that receives almost no rainfall. In general, Deserts are areas with a moisture deficits i.e. lose more moisture than receive.
Deserts are defined as areas with average precipitations less than 250mm per year or where more water in lost by evaporation and transpiration than fall by precipitation.
Deserts constitute about 1/3 or 33% of Earth's land surface.

Largest desert - Antarctica
Hottest desert- Sahara

Hot Deserts
-Common Form of Deserts
-Have large diurnal and seasonal temperature variation with daytime tempreture reach more than 45 degree celsius in the summer and dipping to 0 degree at night in winter.

Cold Deserts
Polar Deserts which occurs in extremely cold  regions.In cold Deserts the mean temp. during the warmth is less than 10 degree celsius due to lack of precipitated.

Very High Altitude - Leh(Laddakh)

Rain Shadow Deserts
 Animals- Kangaroo,Rat,Cayote,Jackal, Jack Rabbit and Lizards.
